Titus 2:3-5

"Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips, nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored."

We all have our THING...

"The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup; Thou dost support my lot. The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me." Psalm 16: 5,6

I've been reflecting this week on how every single one of us has that 'thing' or those 'things' we want so badly that we don't have. For me one of those things is the battle of the bulge. I struggle everyday with covetousness towards those beautiful ladies that have lean, toned bodies, especially those who don't need to put much effort into maintaining their slender figures. If I dwell too much on this desire, especially at the wrong time of month, it can easily push me into a state of depression and hopelessness.

But recently, the Lord opened my eyes to the reality that every single one of us has those 'things' that threatens to steal our joy and keep us in a perpetual state of discontentment. For some, like me, it is body image. For others, it is health, finances, marriage woes, child challenges, barrenness, and the list goes on and on. As long as we focus on attaining those 'things', we fall into the trap of perpetual discontentment because even if we get what we want, there is always another unfulfilled desire waiting in line to steal our joy.

What is your 'thing'? Surrender it to God completely today because you already have the best 'thing' of all. -Amen.
