Even though we know this, sometimes we find ourselves neglecting our quiet times because we lack a specific direction and plan or because we feel pressure to make every bible time into an in-depth study. The Lord never intended His Word to be intimidating or difficult and He desires us to renew our minds and meet Him in it daily.

The attached Prayer Journal was taken directly from the appendix of Nancy Missler's "Faith in the Night Seasons", and takes us step-by-step through a practical way to speak to and hear from God daily. Whether you are currently serving as a ministry worker or are interested in beginning to serve as a ministry worker, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to receive insight and inspiration from 2 life-long evangelists, Ann Graham Lotz (daughter of Billy Graham) and Jill Briscoe (celebrated speaker and evangelist for over 40 years). Due to the fact that spaces are filling up quickly, we have a registration deadline of Monday April 25. At this time a $75 deposit is due to hold your spot. This deposit is fully refundable until August 30, at which time the balance of your registration fee is due. Here are the details:

Date: Friday September 30-Sunday October 2, 2011
Place: Billy Graham Training Centre, "The Cove", located in Asheville, North Carolina. see: www.thecove.org
Seminar and Lodging Fee: approx. $450
Travel Cost: TBD, depending on method of travel
RSVP: To Jean Chang by Monday April 25, 2011 (preferably sooner so we can reserve our spots before they are taken)

Please prayerfully consider this as an opportunity to "Buy truth and not sell it".(Proverbs 23:23) Do not be intimidated by the cost because we can all work together this summer to host some fundraising events to help cover some of the costs. The Cove is a spectacular place to visit with its beautiful, rolling hills and breathtaking landscape....not to mention that the food is incredible, the accommodations outstanding, and the service the best Southern Christian hospitality around. Looking forward to making some great memories!

Sincerely,

Tina Kim, Tammy Kim, Janette Lee, and Jean Chang (Your WOTR leaders)

WOTR Leaders' Meetiing & Luncheon - Sat. Have you been living each day with this goal in mind? To become the person you were always meant to be?...a dynamic, living minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ? Are you living like He is your All and has his life been flowing in you and through you to the lives of those around you? Now is the time to forget the mistakes of the past and look forward to a new day, a new season. We know our Lord is returning soon and this may be the only opportunity that you have left to give Him your all...

We will be hosting a small group leaders' meeting and luncheon on Saturday March 26 @10am-1pm and invite you all to attend. We will be discussing some exciting opportunities, initiatives, and plans for the new year that we believe will minister to you and help you to be a minister also. Please do everything in your power to attend this luncheon, as it will be pivotal to our plans for the remainder of 2011.

You will have an opportunity to share your personal blessings, challenges with your current small group and to ask a lot of questions and concerns you may have as a small group leader. This is one meeting you definitely don't want to miss! Please RSVP to me, Jean Chang, by the end of this week, Friday March 11 to confirm your attendance. God Bless you and looking forward to meeting with you all!

Jean Chang

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://womenoftherock.blogspot.com/2011/03/wotr-leaders-meetiing-luncheon-sat.html' title='WOTR Leaders' Meetiing & Luncheon - Sat. The most amazing thing about this whole night, was that all we had to do was roll up the first snowball (our ideas) and give it a little nudge by faith, and the Lord made each one of those little snowballs into mountains for His glory. Here is the video that we played last night to introduce you to some of this year's testimonies.

2009 WOTR Women's Testimony Video from Rock Community Church on Vimeo.

Thank you to all the women who put themselves out there last night during the talent show. Our hearts were so blessed by all your individual gifts and testimonies. Thank you also to all of you busy women, for taking the time to cook such delicious food and weave through the craziness of the day to join us for our evening last night. A very special thank you to Tammy for pouring heart and soul into creating such a beautiful testimony booklet for us all to enjoy, to Tina for leading us all to worship our Lord in Spirit and truth, and to Janette for diligently working behind the scenes to recruit all you wonderful workers to make last night so light and carefree. There are so many more people to thank...you know who you are. I believe the Lord was smiling down on us last night and I feel so privileged to have been there with you all to experience it.

You will also find here a full-color, downloadable, e-mailable, and printable version of our Women's testimony booklet right here. (2 Cor 12:4)

Attention Women of the Rock!

This year we will be hosting a talent show during our annual Christmas Potluck, just to give us all an opportunity to have fun sharing any gifts and talents (or just willingness) that the Lord has granted to us to display for His glory. It can be anything from singing, dancing, art, reading/writing, sketching, a skit or a mime...the possibilities are limitless. I can only imagine how much hidden talent there is out there and I'm sure some of you may have felt that itch to share your gift with others. This will be your opportunity! God has richly blessed us with many skills and abilities and He has not intended for any of them to be hidden. Let us not hide our gifts under a basket, but richly display them so we can all see what He has given us and give Him praise and glory for it!

We've already received several confirmations from women who have bravely volunteered, one of them being a hip/hop dance crew! Praise God!

Some information you should know are as follows:

1. Individual OR group performances are both welcome. You can go alone on this or coordinate with your small group or round up friends to plan something.

2. Each performance should reflect the Lord in some way - one person should share briefly what the performance is and whatever way God has used it in your life, blessed others etc...

3. Each performance should be no longer then 5-7 minutes due to time constraints.

4. Even though this is a talent show, please do not worry about how skilled you are or how "good" the performance will be. I've found that with some of the performances I've seen in the past, it wasn't so much their skill, but the testimony and heart that went behind it as well. If you really enjoy doing something, just share it and I'm sure we'll all be blessed by it.

So if you'd like to break out of your shell and share something, please let me know by Sunday, Nov 1. I can be reached at tinachoe1031 at gmail dot com.

Lord bless you all and let's make this a great event!

Tina Kim

Are you a Martha?

"Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only a few things are necessary, really only one, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her." (Luke 10:41,32)

Dear Ladies,

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you all enjoyed a warm and blessed time with your families this weekend. When you look at this picture of a grand thanksgiving feast, what sentiment immediately comes to mind? Do you find your mouth watering, or like me, do you find yourself thinking, "Wow, that would be a lot of work!"

The Lord convicted me recently that I do indeed suffer from "Martha syndrome", getting so absorbed in barreling through my daily "to-do" list that I often don't stop to truly consider the Lord and just listen to Him. At first this seemed like a harmless by-product of being busy, but it wasn't long before trying to do everything in my own strength took it's toll on me and I found myself run down, stressed out, and even physicallly sick.

As we gear up for the busy holiday season, my prayer for us all is that we can take a deep breath, stop all of our crazy activity and just sit at the Lord's feet and listen to Him. Until we can get into the Lord's stride, all of our striving is pointless and will amount to nothing in the end except wasted effort and unnecessary stress. Yes, it's true that as believers in Jesus Christ, we are called to be ministers and laborers, but let us not labor and toil in vain, but rather in His strength and by His Spirit.

What was Mary's "good part"? She stopped and listened to the Lord, placing herself automatically where the Lord wanted her to be. How simple and uncomplicated. Let us all stop and listen today. I have asked all small group leaders and any other women in your small groups (please pass along the word) to write a testimony in answer to the following question:

"As you reflect on 2009, what scripture really influenced/encouraged/carried you through?" This could be a word you heard through a Sunday message, a PBS, or even a verse spoken to you by a friend to encourage you. Jesus is the Living Word, and His Word comes to life through us when we receive it and apply it to our lives. What a wonderful testimony it will be for us to share with one another, as well as our friends and family who are not believers, how the Lord has impacted us through His word! The deadline for your testimony submission is October 31. We are asking all WOTR leaders to submit a testimony and to encourage your small group members to submit one as well.

Secondly, our children's annual Hallelujah party is coming up on Sat. October 31 and like last year, we need your help to run booths. We are asking all small groups, both WOTR and MOTR to man a booth this year and to make an effort to change/improve your booth from last year. Each small group is asked to contact Jen Kim as soon as possible (this week!) with the details of your booth. Please ensure that your small group also supplies ample candy and treats for your booth. Please contact Jen Kim with any questions.

Thirdly, Tina is waiting to hear from you all regarding the talents that you wish to display at our WOTR Christmas party this year! We know you each have your hidden talents and your group members do also, so please contact Tina Kim with your intention to perform no later than October 18, 2009.

Finally, I want to encourage you all to reflect on the status and direction of your small groups and to consider that the ultimate purpose for these groups is to "teach each other how to teach" the bible. If you have not been doing this in your regular PBS groups, please prayerfully make a plan as to how you will begin to do this. I have posted a document on the side margin of this blog, entitled, How to Lead a Personal Bible Study. This document may help you on your way to transforming your small group into an effective discipleship ministry. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask. Just remember: the primary purpose for our small groups is not fellowship and support (although that is a natural outcome of studying the word together) but to fulfill the Great Commission to "Go out and make disciples". Anybody who feels the Lord's calling to start a new small group can speak to myself so we can get you connected with those in our body who are not currently in a small group. However, please feel free to follow the Spirit's prompting on starting new bible study groups with that neighbour that has been on your heart and mind for a long time...you know who they are!

May the Lord bless you in your endeavours to make disciples in the midst of the "busy-ness" of life!

-Jean Chang

WOTR Christmas Potluck on Sat. As usual, this event will be a potluck event and will run from 5pm to 9pm at our main chapel.

This year, the theme of our event is, "Jesus, the Word of life." We have been so blessed this year to have received so much of his goodness through His word this year. We learned about capturing our thoughts and the secret to joy in the midst of difficult circumstances, and so much more. Most importantly, we have learned that truly the Person of Jesus is at the heart of all that we are and all that we hope for. This year we will have an opportunity to share with one another how the Word of life has become real in our lives. Please save this date and take this opportunity to invite your family and friends to join us for an evening to remember. See you all there!

-Jean Chang

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://womenoftherock.blogspot.com/2009/10/wotr-christmas-potluck-on-sat-dec-5.html' title='WOTR Christmas Potluck on Sat. I didn't know her very well but had been to her home and socialized with her on a couple of occassions. My reaction when I was told the news surprised even me. I cried so hard because I thought about how much sadness she must have felt before she took her life and also that I hadn't shared Jesus with her. I thought about the wasted opportunities I had.

It made me think that there are so many people I have interaction with every day who might be going through the same sadness and depression and unless I am open with sharing Christ, those people will never know how God could change their lives and save them.

My prayer is that for God to prepare those hearts of unbelievers to be open to what I have to share and to present opportunities, but it is up to me to open the doors.

Share the love of Christ today with someone you know or someone you don't.

--
Diana Shin

Demonic Self-Entitlement and the Lord's Deliverance

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 198px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_hJvQCq6j4q8/Sdyv_-aenrI/AAAAAAAABTE/WCSP9YddxEY/s200/standingonscale.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5322322373265759922" />

"Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us..." (Ephesians 2:20)

It came to my attention this week that the source of all misery in my life is when I hold onto my sense of self-entitlement regarding some aspect of my life. For example, if I workout consistently, I think I deserve to be in shape or lose weight, even though I am still indulging in high-calorie sweets. I say to myself, well my skinny friends can eat whatever sweets they want, so don't I deserve to also? Then when weeks go by and I haven't shed a pound, I get upset. Or if I look around me and see people in my life living according to a certain standard of living, I can easily convince myself that I deserve to live according to that same standard. When life hits me with curve ball, I get bent out of shape because somehow I have allowed this demonic sense of self-entitlement to enter my soul and squeeze out the life from me.

How do we rid ourselves of such a subtle but demonic influence? Just telling yourself to let go of your rights is not going to do it. You must go to the Lord and surrender your whole self to Him and let His power cleanse you from this evil influence. You cannot create Jesus' nature in you but you can let Him do it.

"The Holy Spirit is the deity of God who continues to apply the power of the atonment by the Cross of Christ to our lives. Thank God for the glorious and majestic truth that His Spirit can work the very nature of Jesus into us, if we will only obey Him." The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me." Psalm 16: 5,6

I've been reflecting this week on how every single one of us has that 'thing' or those 'things' we want so badly that we don't have. For me one of those things is the battle of the bulge. I struggle everyday with covetousness towards those beautiful ladies that have lean, toned bodies, especially those who don't need to put much effort into maintaining their slender figures. If I dwell too much on this desire, especially at the wrong time of month, it can easily push me into a state of depression and hopelessness.

But recently, the Lord opened my eyes to the reality that every single one of us has those 'things' that threatens to steal our joy and keep us in a perpetual state of discontentment. For some, like me, it is body image. For others, it is health, finances, marriage woes, child challenges, barrenness, and the list goes on and on. As long as we focus on attaining those 'things', we fall into the trap of perpetual discontentment because even if we get what we want, there is always another unfulfilled desire waiting in line to steal our joy.

What is your 'thing'? Surrender it to God completely today because you already have the best 'thing' of all. -Amen.

Jean Chang

You will find rest for your souls...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 195px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_hJvQCq6j4q8/ScVNAHAm4CI/AAAAAAAABPI/5nWrfzHvcpY/s200/mom-and-baby-3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5315739599457673250" />
Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

As a new mom, I was always sleep deprived and needed lots of rest. But there was always something to do and instead of resting, I would try to get as many things done as possible. Sometimes, I would burn myself out from trying to do too much. Then, I would crash. Now, all parents know that having a newborn is not a restful time (unless your baby is a wonderful sleeper)! That’s why I’m so glad that God has promised us His rest here on earth, not just in Heaven. It is a special kind of rest that comes from believing in God’s promises and knowing that He is taking care of me. I do not have to work for this rest. In fact, I cannot do a single thing in my flesh to achieve it. I can only enter His promised rest by faith. So when I feel particularly exhausted, I need to remind myself of this spiritual truth. His rest is waiting for me. All I need to do is enter it by faith, not by my works. Will you know His rest this week? I hope both of us do.

Julie Song

It shall not return to me empty without accomplishing what I desire...

"For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth, and making it bear and sprout, and furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; so shall My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it." You don't need to have life all figured out, you don't have to be a perfect saint, just come as you are and read His Word together and watch how God comes down from above and accomplishes His work in you, completely apart from anything you could ever do for yourself. Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly." (Romans 12:5-6)

I have discovered that the best way to cut warm, oven-fresh brownies into perfect squares is by using a plastic knife, not a metal one. Although we may find ourselves frustrated if we try to cut other foods such as steaks using a plastic knife, when it comes to cutting warm brownies, a plastic one will do the job perfectly. For a long time, I was like a plastic knife trying to cut everything that I wasn't made to cut. As a result, I got so defeated because I wasn't able to cut through anything smoothly. It only led to a hopeless and powerless state. Not only that, when I tried to step out of myself and become a metal knife, my "brownies" were crumbled and messy, and made me feel worthless. Then I realized although I was made as a "plastic knife", I was trying to be a metal one. But, the Bible clearly tells us that we are given different talents to serve the Lord in different areas and as a body, we compensate each other. It is when I understood this by heart, not by head, that I finally had peace and was content about being a "plastic knife" not a metal one. Let us not to compare with others and have a self-pity for what we cannot do, but ask the Lord to reveal it to us what we are able to do and serve the Lord wholeheartedly in those areas!

Erin Leung

The Lord's Provision Where We Least Expect

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 161px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_hJvQCq6j4q8/ScVPSb-fSoI/AAAAAAAABPQ/I6Wi5EIqqB0/s200/bread+and+fish.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5315742113346833026" />
Mark 6:37-38 But He answered and said to them, "You give them something to eat."
